Situation

Scene Health, a healthtech startup located in Maryland, found itself facing significant challenges when it came to hiring new employees. Specifically, they were struggling to secure senior-level technical talent, which was exacerbated by long hiring processes, rising costs, and retention issues. To make matters more complex, the CTO had very high standards for the recruits they were seeking.

The company had a specific need for senior full-stack JavaScript developers who were proficient in Node.js and React, as well as QA automation engineers and React Native developers. It was important for them to find professionals within the same time zone to ensure smooth coordination.

Recognizing the positive reputation of Argentina's technical talent, the CEO of Scene Health decided to explore a nearshore hiring strategy. This is where TECLA comes in - our company is dedicated to helping U.S. companies like Scene Health hire top-tier talent from Latin America.

Solution

TECLA quickly took action to address Scene Health's needs. We conducted a thorough assessment, which allowed us to create a hiring plan specifying suitable salary ranges and identified Argentina, Peru, and Colombia as the target countries for talent sourcing.

In close collaboration with Scene Health's CTO, we carefully evaluated the technical skills of our candidates to ensure they met the company's high standards. Additionally, we delved deeper into understanding Scene Health's internal culture, an essential step in identifying candidates who could seamlessly integrate into their existing team.

To ensure we presented only the best candidates, we conducted rigorous vetting and complemented their profiles with detailed recruiter assessments. This not only narrowed down the ideal candidates but also provided Scene Health with valuable insights into each potential hire.

Throughout the hiring process, we played a vital role in coordinating interviews and offering assistance whenever needed, ensuring a smooth and efficient process.

Our efforts yielded positive results. In less than eight weeks, we successfully hired five individuals: three Senior Full-stack JS Developers, one Sr. QA Test Engineer, and one Sr. React Native Developer. All of these candidates were sourced from the targeted countries, aligning with Scene Health's preference for the same time zone.

In terms of long-term outcomes, our strategy proved to be effective. Two years after the hiring process, four out of the five candidates are still with Scene Health, demonstrating high retention. Only one employee recently left the company, further highlighting the success of our approach in providing stable, long-term talent solutions.

Why Latin America?

Scene Health strategically chose Latin America for their hiring needs due to several compelling reasons. The region offers the advantage of accessing top-tier technical talent at lower costs, providing significant economic benefits for the startup.

Moreover, Latin American countries align well with U.S. time zones, facilitating seamless collaboration between teams. Furthermore, the region has a strong reputation for higher retention rates, offering Scene Health a solution to their turnover issues and ensuring long-term stability and continuity in their technical operations.

Why TECLA?

Scene Health selected TECLA as their recruiting partner for a variety of reasons. Firstly, TECLA has a deep understanding of healthtech companies, allowing us to identify candidates with experience in the health sector and familiarity with HIPAA regulations. Moreover, we have a vast network of pre-vetted senior-level talent, providing Scene Health with access to highly qualified candidates.

Additionally, TECLA is well-regarded as a trusted brand among developers in Latin America, which enhances Scene Health's own employer brand and attracts top talent. It's important to note that TECLA goes beyond candidate placement by offering valuable insights, analysis, and consulting services. We educate our clients about the market and guide them throughout the hiring journey, aligning perfectly with Scene Health's needs for a comprehensive approach.

Results

After partnering with TECLA, Scene Health was able to hire five top quality candidates from Latin America.

Metrics

The successful hire provided additional benefits for Scene Health, such as cost savings, reduced hiring times and a longer retention rate.

Aftermath: Millions in Funding Secured!

Scene Health raised a total of $23.9 million in Series A and B financing rounds in 2021. The company, which rebranded itself from emocha in December, plans to use the funds to expand its platform and reach more patients and providers. The company also added two new board members from its lead investors, Claritas Health Ventures and ABS Capital Partners.
