We wanted to let you know that, at this time, the company is not accepting any more applications. The company and its hiring team have decided to pause the process for the time being. This can be due to several factors ranging from having too many candidates already, to re-evaluating the role being offered.
We will have more updates soon.
At Beatha Technology we combine advanced tools and techniques to optimize risk exposures and have built a platform that allows users to apply, receive and repay microloans through their mobile phone. Once a user creates an account we validate their information and make lending decisions based on the information they give us and hundreds of data points we take from their mobile phones with their permission. Our platform manages all parts of the lending cycle. No human is involved in any of our lending processes, allowing us to keep extremely low overheads while maintaining a fast, efficient service for the user. Our risk model improves over time as we collect Android metadata as well as customer performance patterns from the usage of the platform. For every applicant, we get more important data to train against.
Kenya is our first market. With a labor force of 18m, the average Kenyan monthly income of $255 a month means that over 35% of workers need some advancement on their informal salaries at least once a month. We estimate that the unmet credit demand in Kenya alone to be $18.8bn per year and represents a large opportunity. Informal sources are currently plugging this gap that we want to fill. Outside of Kenya over 2.3bn people worldwide are underserved by the formal financial sector and we intend to roll our service firstly across Africa and then to underserved markets across the globe.
Demand is growing for our offering due to increased Smartphone penetration across the board. Smartphone connections in Sub- Saharan Africa have doubled over the past two years to nearly 200 million, accounting for a quarter of mobile connections in 2016. Key factors supporting the growth of smartphone adoption in the region include the increasing affordability of new devices and a growing market for second-hand devices.
